Anarchist Wine Co. is an outside the box project. I presented an idea that was rather far-out, using Generative Art, and these amazing folks went for it. Starting with a list of 25 people whose radical ideas made change – from Galilei to Cousteau – we took their numerical information (birth and death dates as well as the date of their significant work) and integrated it into code written by the other-worldly-brilliant Keith Peters (bit-101.com) to create the artwork.

Urban Legend's manifesto starts off by stating Rules Be Damned

Urban Legend is the winery brainchild of Marilee and Steve Shaffer. When referred to redesign their packaging from silkscreen to print I didn't miss a beat in saying yes please. You totally do want to hang out with these people.

With an easy and simpatico working style, we came up with the following. The labels contain various maps of Alameda, California where the winery is located. When the map appears in the U it is printed at 100% and stamped with a holographic, clear foil. As the bottle rotates, this embellishment adds a subtle and gorgeous shift of radiant and reflective color.

The fellows that make up Cévant Cellars are freewheeling to say the least. Designing for them is just as freewheeling as they are open to the world and ideas, evident by the theme for their brand.

I started designing for them in 2013 – the Einstein vintage. These folks have a pretty blush-worthy sense of humor, like their story of the number 49. And so I hid the number 49 in each year's artwork. One year one of their kids called me to ask where it was – said Dad would give them $100 if they found it.
